A stock crate is the livestock body fitted to a truck or trailer. Crates may be fixed or removable, single or double deck, for cattle, sheep or pigs. Farmers, agistment operators and livestock carriers use them.

How a crate is financed depends on the setup. A crate fitted to a new truck is usually included in the truck's finance. A replacement crate, or one moved between vehicles, can be financed separately, though the loan may be smaller than some lenders' minimums. Lenders look at the crate's condition and builder, and at the farm or cartage income behind it.

Tip: if you're replacing a crate on an existing truck, ask whether it's simpler to refinance the truck and crate together. It can mean one repayment instead of two.
