Finance a B-double combination — prime mover and two trailers — with a specialist heavy vehicle broker. The most efficient freight configuration on Australian roads, and one of the most commonly financed heavy vehicle setups.
A B-double links two semi-trailers behind a prime mover, with the lead trailer carrying a fifth wheel for the second. It moves more freight per driver than a single semi, which is why it's the backbone of line-haul and bulk work between capital cities and major regional centres.
Because a B-double is really two trailers, lenders look at each trailer's age, make and condition, plus whether the set will be bundled with the prime mover. They also want to see the work it's going to do. B-doubles can only run on approved routes, so a contract or regular freight on a B-double network makes the application much stronger.
Tip: if you're stepping up from a single semi, show the lender your history running the smaller combination and the extra freight the B-double will carry. A lead and rear trailer from the same builder and year is usually simpler to value than a mismatched pair.
